Poppies & Pills

Laos has been ranked the third largest opium producer after Afghanistan and Burma. In recent years cultivation has been reduced, but there is now concern that up to 50% of farmers may return to producing opium for a more sustainable living.

In contrast, yaba (methamphetamine) has taken a hold in Cambodia, the small pill being held responsible for the dramatic rise in crime and HIV.
